As reported in the Charlotte Observer's Carolinas Roundup on 3/27/08 Fortune's Small Business magazine ranked Charlotte as number eight on its list of the best cities to live and launch a business.
Reported 3/26/2008 by Vinnie Tong of the Associated Press - Charlotte Home Prices Defy Trend - the Queen City the only exception as values slide in 20 other US Cities. While US home prices fell 10.7% in January, and the Standard & Poor's Case-Shiller home price index of 20 cities saw the steepest decline in the index's two decade history, Charlotte saw an 1.8% increase. Bob Morgan president of the Charlotte Chamber, said the news is a positive reflection on the Charlotte area's economy. "I think it says we're very fortunate in Charlotte that we're continuing to attract new jobs and that our population is growing" he told the observer.
As reported in the Observer, real estate agents and local officials cited Charlotte's history of more modest house price growth during the book years for the reason the market was holding up now.
